price increase strategy & behavioral stress testing
Planning a price increase? Explore how customers could respond.
Assess the switching pressures around your proposed change before you commit.
Difference Machine uses customer language to model how pricing pressure interacts with the concerns already present in your market. A focused stress-testing engagement helps you examine scenarios and identify the questions that need closer attention.
start with the change you are considering. we will assess the evidence needed.
the question
Put your proposed change in context.
A price increase reaches customers who already have opinions about your product. Some see strong value. Others are questioning service quality, subscription flexibility, or the alternatives available.
We examine that context to investigate:
- When price becomes a reason to reconsider.
- How existing dissatisfaction could amplify the response.
- Where customers describe switching, reducing usage, or leaving.
- How the modeled response changes across agreed scenarios.
example · netflix
See how pricing pressure appears in customer language.
dfmchn's independent Netflix analysis examined 377,487 public comments. In that corpus, price friction rose 55% and advertising friction rose 124% from the earlier baseline into April 2026, and cancel-intent language rose with them.
The report shows the evidence, the modeling assumptions, and the limitations behind the analysis. dfmchn's model projected Netflix hard churn at approximately 2% in April 2026, consistent with Antenna's independent 2.3% estimate, while a much larger reversible cohort was building underneath it.

the engagement
A stress test built around your decision.
We begin with your proposed change and assess whether the available evidence can support a useful analysis. The engagement includes:
- Baseline assessment. Where your customer population sits before the change, read from the language it already uses about price, value, and alternatives.
- Scenario comparison. The agreed pricing-pressure scenarios run side by side, showing where the modeled population starts to move.
- Readout. Implications and uncertainties stated plainly. Any mapping between a specific price change and modeled pressure is made explicit.
